Re: The S.E.P 2

Post by MrGorsh on Thu Oct 27, 2011 12:35 pm

Someone wanted a review so...

Ankylosaurus: this skin is beautiful. I mean, beautiful. It lacks joint issues, is laid perfectly and gives an impression of very rugged and tough animal. I'm simply amazed with this one, as there are very few this quality Ankylosaurus skins.
skin rating: 5 stars
Brachiosaurus : this one is great too, lacks joint issues and the coloration is attractive. Only thing that disturbs me is the wrinkle layout on the back. It looks a bit out of place and damages the effect.
skin rating: 4 stars
Camarasaurus: Honestly, you could have done better here. It's too rugged and skin bumps and nodules look out of place here. I can see some joint issues at the front legs.
skin rating: 3 stars
Corythosaurus: Very inventive and original, but still has some minor joint issues that are visible when animal does not move. Coloration is not blending with environment much, but it's still looking natural.
skin rating: 4 stars
Edmontosaurus: Choosing CM iguanodon texture as a basis was not a good idea, because it's quite dull and looks far too regular. At least there are no major joint issues. Eye is far too large for this big animal. Unfortunately, texture choice destroyed everything.
skin rating: 3 and half star
Gallimimus: Good choice of texture, also is well laid. I have almost nothing to complain about this skin, it has no major joint issues and the texture looks natural. One thing that troubles me is that the eye is barely visible.
skin rating: 4 stars
Homalocephale: Considering it's one of the most annoying animals in jpog to skin, you did a great job here. It looks well, despite having a major joint error at the front arms. Also looks natural.
skin rating: 4 stars
Kentrosaurus: Unfortunately, I can't say the same about this one. It's too rugged and scaly, also not very natural. Despite this, I like the pattern itself, what pushes the skin a bit upwards.
skin rating: 3 and half star
Othnielia: Not bad choice of the pattern, maybe you should push up the density of stripes. The eye looks a bit weird and too far to the top of the head.
skin rating: 3 stars
Ouranosaurus: Very interesting choice of the texture, which is also well laid except one place: Hind leg. It destroyed the effect completely, you should try moving the stripe tip on the leg a bit forwards so that it meets its body counterpart Smile
skin rating: 3 and half star
Pachycephalosaurus: Same goes here, hind leg joint issue is robbing your skin of the rating, also the texture on animals back is a bit too blurry
skin rating: 3 stars
Parasaurolophus: Original texture choice, but you did not manage to blend the joints well. Hind leg one is really messed and the tail joint is much lighter than the rest of the tail texture. Pinkish-something coloration of the crest does not help.
skin rating: 3 and half star
Stegosaurus: This one looks impressive. The pattern is nice, also the coloration of it. Only the body texture looks a bit too wrinkled, but fortunately it loses the expression from distance. Good work.
skin rating: 4 stars
Styracosaurus: Starting with too scaly and unnatural looking texture on the body, with the gigantic eye following, this skin has only well-laid frill texture to offer. It's not very attractive at all and I would prefer the stock Styrac despite it's regularness.
skin rating: 2 and half star
Torosaurus: This one, despite being scaly too, looks natural, blends well and lacks major joint issues. Frill is well skinned, also is the body. Maybe a bit too bright, but it does not hurt much
skin rating: 4 stars
Triceratops: Skin itself looks pleasing and quite natural. I have nothing to taunt about the pattern. Only two joint issues - front part of the hind leg and front part of the 'arm'. Other than these, well made skin.
skin rating: 4 stars

Albertosaurus: Quite original choice of texture and coloration. Looks nice and somehow natural. There's only one actual joint issue - at the backside of the thigh.
skin rating: 4 stars
Ceratosaurus: Good choice of texture and coloration. I see no joint issues. It would be perfect if the eye texture on the head was laid properely, now it creates a strange'something' around the actual eye
skin rating: 4 and half stars
Deinonychus: Another good skin, offers a great option, looks natural and pleasing. Maybe the nostrils should be moved a bit backwards, as they are almost fused together. Joints are barely visible.
skin rating: 4 and half star
Dilophosaurus: Only things I like in this skin is the crest, frill and tail pattern, the rest is barely visible to have any features that might look interesting. You should really try to brighten it a bit, for now it's just... weird.
skin rating: 2 stars

Acrocanthosaurus: Pretty common choice of the texture, altough it's still quite well laid. You should consider checking if the arms texture matches the inner part of it. Joint on tail is barely visible. Nodules on the tail give impression of being in weird positioning, so does the head texture. There's no ear. I can't see the nostrils.
skin rating: 3 stars
Allosaurus: Looks well from distance. When you zoom in, it loses almost everything from its beauty. Frontal oints are very visible and they look like you have put almost no effort in covering them. Head coloration and the body pattern saves this skin a bit, but it would need some tweaking.
skin rating: 3 stars
Carcharodontosaurus: This one deserves a better rating, it's well made, you have probably put some more effort in it. Only joint I can see is the tail one, but from distance it's not very annoying. Skin looks beautiful and is a good choice for a jpog player.
skin rating: 4 and half star
Tyrannosaurus: You have disturbed me with this skin. It looks good when zoomed in, but I(and I'm speaking only for myself here) don't like it when seeing from distance. It might have looked nice on the source picture, but simply does not fit JPOG environment unless you're using it on bright, almost ash-covered environment. There are no joint issues, also no errors, so I was in pains. But since the coloration liking might be very personal, I still give him best rating.
skin rating: 5 stars
Spinosaurus: He could not win with T.rex here. The spine elongations are pointing too much backwards, like fish fin. I see a one ugly joint issue at the hind leg. And the neck wrinkles look out of place. It's even ok when you observe him from a distance, but closer look reveals the errors.
skin rating: 3 and half star

Conclusion: You did a great job with some of the skins, while others look like you were in a hurry to proceed further. This damaged your pack much and I had some trouble with posting the ratings. I hoped they will make something better, but unfortunately, the great skins were not enough to minimize the impact from the worse skins. And thus, the pack recieves fat 3.5 stars. It was nearly four stars, just some of the skins damaged it too much.

Thanks Gorsh, and yes I was in a hurry on some of the skins. But my Acrocanthosaurus was the first I know of to use that texture! Very Happy
But yes, the next pack will be much better now I have 512x512s and UVs Big Grin
thanks for the rating
